Starting with Windows

Getting Started Guide
The next time you reboot your computer, you see the Boot Magic menu. Select
either the Windows or OpenLinux partition from that menu to have either of
those operating systems booted.
At this point, you are ready to use Windows or OpenLinux from your computer.
The remaining sections of this chapter describe how to create bootable floppy
diskettes in the case where your computer was unable to boot the installation pro-
gram from the “OpenLinux Kernel and Installation” CD-ROM.
Creating OpenLinux Diskettes in Windows
If your computer system was not able to boot directly from a CD-ROM drive,
and you can’t launch the OpenLinux installation from Windows as described ear-
lier in this chapter, you need an Installation diskette and (possibly) a Modules
diskette. These diskettes will enable you to boot your computer directly to the
OpenLinux installation program, as described in Chapter 3.
NOTE: We recommend that you try starting the installation
from Windows or by booting directly from the CD-ROM. If
neither of these methods is successful, you should re-start
Windows and create the Installation and Modules Diskettes.
You have two choices of Installation Diskettes:
•
Lizard Diskettes: OpenLinux 2.3 comes with a single Lizard Installation
(boot) diskette. Use this diskette if you cannot boot from CD-ROM, but
your computer can support a graphical install. You may need to create a
Lizard Modules diskette if the boot diskette can’t detect your hardware.
•
Lisa Diskettes: Create Lisa diskettes if a graphical install doesn’t work
and you need a text-based installation instead. An incompatible graphics
card can be the reason you need to do a Lisa install.
For either set of diskettes, the Installation Diskette is used to boot your computer
system into the OpenLinux Installation program. The Modules diskette contains
additional hardware drivers. This diskette may be required as the installation pro-
gram proceeds.
Creating an Installation Diskette
Procedures for creating Lizard or Lisa Install diskettes are basically the same. To
create either installation diskette with which to launch the OpenLinux Installation
program:
